About AACRCGroup of young people meeting outside

Who we are

The Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center (AACRC) began in 1993 when a group of local citizens began meeting to discuss violence and were interested in creating a community-based solution. Today we offer mediation, facilitation and community conferencing services to individuals and groups in conflict. Our services are largely free. We also offer training and workshops in mediation, anger management and other conflict resolution processes.

Our philosophy and mission

While conflict is normal and can be a healthy and creative force for change, failing to deal with it in a constructive manner damages individuals kidsand relationships. Often, individuals avoid open confrontation because they are uncomfortable with it or do not have the skills to handle it. Training in conflict resolution provides these skills and enables people to face and creatively channel conflict rather than allowing hostilities to build toward violence or litigation.

It is the mission of AACRC to improve the quality of life for individuals in Anne Arundel County and to create a more peaceful and productive community by helping people communicate constructively to resolve conflict through education, facilitation and mediation.

We are currently in partnership with the Department of Aging, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Health, the Department of Social Services, and the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Police Departments to offer specialized mediation services and workshops.

Staff and Board

Our board of directors is comprised of individuals representing the diversity of our community’s ethnic, economic and gender characteristics. The board of directors is integral to our program and administrative services. They provide management and financial expertise and help with program development and implementation. In addition to the volunteer assistance from the Board, we benefit from the efforts of committee volunteers, office volunteers, and over 50 trained volunteer mediators.
